Smart Guy

The other day I asked Jake where his band-aid was... he said "band-aid!", pointed at his head, then ran into his room, opened up the top drawer of the changing table, got on his tip-toes, found the Neosprin, and brought it back to me.
I was floored. Apparently, he's smart enough to realize that his band-aid and the "medicine" are connected.

Tonight, Blaine and I were putting Jake to bed. Lately, we like to let him choose his bedtime book. His favorite is an ABC book that he always picks. Jake had his hand on the ABC binding, and Blaine said (mostly to himself), "Um, how about "Barnyard Dance, buddy?" (as it was next in line on the bookshelf). Jake took his hand off the ABC favorite, grabbed Barnyard Dance, and brought to his daddy, smiling.
We couldn't believe it. (We read the ABC book after just for Jakey.)

Call me biased, but I'm pretty sure I've got the smartest kid ever.

Pirate Jake

Poor little man Jake had his first (and hopefully last) experience with stitches today. He had been playing with a couple of pots--banging them together--carrying them around--putting them on his head and calling them "hats".

Anyway, I had yet to put them away a little later, as they were still on the floor of the kitchen, and Jakey tripped while running and fell head-first on the edge of one of the pots.

At first, Blaine and I just thought, "Oh--poor guy fell again." Then, "Oh--he really must have hit his head, he's really sad." Then, (upon picking him up and getting ready to kiss it better)...
"Holy Hell!!--our kid split his head open!!"
He was screaming pretty good now...

So, we rushed him to the InstaCare, where they checked him out quickly in the waiting room, slapped some numbing goop on him and covered it up with gauze and tape. He was now pretty happy (see iphone picture above)... until we took him back to see the doctor.

I think he was mostly scared. I would be terrified too if I had to be held down and have a stranger sew my forehead shut with three stitches. Poor little boy.

He was very happy to leave and said, "All done. All done." and "Bye, bye." while sucking down a green Otter Pop.
Actually, I don't know who was more relieved at this point... him or us.

So anyway... we have a little pirate on our hands with a gash above his right eye that may or may not be permanent.

Oh well.
Chicks dig scars.

Dear Milkshake,

Dear chocolate-banana-malt-milkshake,

You rock!
Last night, you knocked my socks off. I loved you til the last drop.
However, you gave me the most wicked heartburn of my pregnancy so far {and that's with Prilosec!} and I {almost} regretted you.

Iceberg won't be seeing me for a little while.

You win, pregnancy.

Awkward Encounters

These are too good not to share:

The other day while at the grocery store check-out, I made the decision to push Jake through the right side of check-out stand, rather than the left-cart-grocery-loading-side because Jake was trying to climb out of his buckled seat to stand up in the front of the cart.
I was only getting a couple of things, so I knew it wasn't a really big deal to throw the couple of grocery bags in the back on the way out the door...
So, I explained myself to the cashier--telling him that I didn't want my little boy trying to climb out of the cart without me standing there to regulate; to which he replied, "That's okay... you don't want him falling--then you'd have yourself a retard." {Um... are you serious???!!!} I tried to "politely" laugh it off and not make eye contact with this dude, but he kept on going on about how falling can turn a kid "retarded." {I totally hate this word, by the way.}
Wow. Thanks, cashier man.

The other night I was trying on a cute cardigan at Downeast Outfitters, and was trying to decide between two sizes.
When I tried on the bigger one, the sales-girl asked me why I was doing so. I told her I just didn't know which one looked better, and she said, "Definitely the smaller one. It makes you look pregnant instead of just fat."
{HAHAHA... for real???!!! Who is this girl?}
I think she realized how she sounded because she started back-pedaling like crazy, "I mean--not that you look fat--I just didn't know how to say it--um--sorry..." I politely laughed it off and told her we were cool.
It was actually pretty funny and I really wasn't mad about it. It just made me laugh.

The other night {same night as "fat" night}, Blaine, Jake and I were strolling around Gateway Mall...
We were approaching a couple and I noticed that the guy was lingering back a little from the girl. I then watched him stick his hand and arm {like--elbow deep!!!} down his pants to adjust himself, then quick-stepped to catch up to her.
C'mon, dude... there's gotta be a better way to adjust your junk so I don't have to see it.

All in all... hilarious.

"Welcome to Girldom"

So it's official.
"Girl World" is real and it's fabulous.
My adorable friend, Allison just dropped by today with her two girlies to say hello, (seriously, I love this girl and it's been waaaay too long...) and to give baby Sarah and me her very first tutu.
I love it--
and kind of want one in my size.

Another Year Older and Wiser Too?

I don't really know about "wiser"... but I am another year older whether I like it or not.

That being said, it was a great weekend.

Saturday night Blaine and I got a babysitter for Jake, ate sushi at Tsunami (our favorite), then hit Hale Center Theater for Fiddler On The Roof. We got season tickets this year, and Fiddler marks our second show of the season. We are loving our elitist feelings of sophistication, and are trying hard to sound awesome and super cool about attending the theatre... This play is really incredible. I was so impressed with the cast's talent and the set. Seriously, if you are thinking about going--do it.

Sunday was also great... we had family over last night for cake and ice cream, and as usual we laughed and talked and ate and laughed and laughed all night.

The clip here is from the movie version of Fiddler. This is from the Tevye's dream scene. Some of you may know that I have said that if I die before Blaine and he tries to remarry, I'll come back from the grave to haunt him and his new wife like Fruma Sarah, the butcher's wife.

Check this out. She rocks.

Little Sarah Dress

I still can't make up my mind if I should lose the ribbon or not...
But I'm pretty happy with the outcome.
Thanks, Elizabeth for the pattern. I love it!
