Neither of us are really that into this particular holiday... but we do like our pump-u-kin. We fired him up to scare the trick-or-treaters. It didn't work. He's just too happy.
By the way, I totally got away with teaching Pop-Culture today... I passed out lyrics to Michael Jackson's "Thriller" (the Vincent Price rap part), had them highlight and underline the Alliteration(s) and Couplets. Then we watched the "short film" in its entirety. Ha! What do you all think? Am I a bad teacher? Oh well.

As long as you don't turn into the English teacher from "Orange County" I think you're fine. Gotta love his thought-provoking questions... "Shawn, are we speaking French?" and "Who's your favorite 'Friend'?"
And don't forget all the famous movies based on Shakespeare's plays: West Side Story, The Talented Mr. Ripley, Chocolat, Waterworld...
I totally remember watching Thriller for an elementary school Halloween party at Westvale. Good times, good times. You're just exposing them to the blacker (and "externally" normal) Michael Jackson we used to love! Rock on, Mrs. Carter!
Perfect learning experiences come from breaking the rules. I just always told the kids if they told anyone we wouldn't get to do it again. Like all the other teachers don't break the "copyright" rule anyway.
Plus, you've got to teach them to love 'Creative writing' in all formats!! And you have to survive the crazy day somehow.
I love the pumpkin and think you are the greatest teacher ever! I just love picturing you teaching a bunch of high school kids. It makes me laugh because I feel like I am still in high school sometimes!
A good English teacher is one who loves literature and gets the kids to love it too. What a wonderful discovery for them to see the "language" side of something as out-there as thriller. (What is weird is that most of your students probably recognized the dance from the movie "Thirteen Going On Thirty"!) They will remember this one!
