No! I hate this! That is something I worry about! What is grammar anyways??? And may I be blunt? Is it just a way to judge others to make yourself feel better about yourself? Feel superior and smarter?
Not that I actually think you do that with others but for anyone else who reads this or thinks this. With all there is to worry about if I have to add grammar to the list I will just give up now.
And Fridays are perfect for me so let's get together, ya ya ya. Think of all that we could sha-air. (did you get that?)
First of all... I make grammar mistakes all the time. But I hate myself for it.
Second... I think it's less of a judgment thing than that. I think it has more to do with my belief that everyone should value the language more. I mean... use an apostrophe correctly... When we don't, it changes the entire context of what someone is saying. (Just one example.)
I know I'm a snob. I'm not pretending to not be a snob. But I think the written language is pretty powerful and important. It should be anyway... and why don't we care more about grammar?
There... I'm down off my soapbox.
As for the other thing--The Parent Trap. With Haley Mills. *sigh* I love that scene.
I love this! I think I might make a copy for my classroom! I agree with you on the written language. It's powerful. Know how to use it. There's really no excuse.
I agree that language is powerful I guess I don't agree with silently judging people because they are not at a certain level that you are. I agree that we should be respectful of our amazing language yet we don't know people's stories and history. We don't know why they don't know how to use an apostrophe or how to us the proper their/there/they're.
I just think we should worry about ourselves, give the proper respect to the language ourselves, and stop worrying about what other people are doing. Let them do what they do, it doesn't really effect us does it?
I have no idea why this brings up an uncomfortable feeling for me.
Sorry, please know that my tone is not angry or mean it is just more pleading.
It could also be because I just listened to The 4 Agreements.
