Shiny

Is it weird that this pretty, shiny, red stapler makes grading papers sooooooo much more fun?
It's the little things, right?

Grammar Nit-Picks

*I want my two dollars!
*I want to go to the show.
*I've had too much fun today.

*Affect is a verb. Effect is a noun.

* If you think you can throw farther than me-- then you are right.

* You either lose things or are a loser. You do not loose them--if something is loose, tighten it back up.

* My heart does not brake--it breaks. Brakes are on a car.

* Their dog is way over there by that fence. They're going to have to call it back.

* Its is possessive. It's is a contraction.

* A family is addressed the Carters, not the Carter's.

* I've had three diet cokes today, not three diet coke's.

* You're a crazy person. So is your mom.

Movies I've Seen Recently (and kind-of want to talk about):

* Marie Antoinette: Okay, okay. I know this movie is oooolllld news. But I had never seen it and always wanted to. I really liked it. A lot. It was a different take on a period piece and it worked for me. I felt like the ending was lacking a little... although I was happy to not have to watch Marie get beheaded.
* Midnight in Paris: I had no clue what this movie was about at all before I sat down and watched it the other night. It was really fun--and a Lit. nerd's paradise. I loved all the writers' and artists' personalities. Especially Hemingway. He was hilarious. Fun movie.
* Breaking Dawn: I FINALLY saw it with my dear friend last night. Aside from the Balto scene (SERIOUSLY!!!) and Edward and Bella's yet, again forced chemistry, I thought it was the best Twi yet. There. I said it.
* Water For Elephants: While the actors were good, I didn't love their characters or their chemistry. It was okay. It was different than what I thought it would be--which wasn't bad. I just didn't love it.
* Footloose: I LOVED IT! I loved everything about it, and that's saying a lot considering hw much I dig the original.
* Nanny McPhee: This movie is darling. I don't know why I waited until a 12 hour drive with my sister and her kids to watch it, but it was great. Emma Thompson-- you're brilliant. And, Colin Firth-- be still my beating heart.
* Something Borrowed: I hated this movie. So much. Every character (except John Krasinski's character... he was the only person with a brain or moral compass) is an awful person. I hated it. HATED it.
* The Help: This is one of the best adaptations of a book I've ever seen. Every single character was spot-on and the plot translated so well to the big screen. My only gripe is that I wanted Celia Foote's character to shine a little more in the movie. She was my favorite person in the book and I'm sad that the scene where she beats the crap out of that pervert in her yard and saves Minnie's life was left out. Still, this is one of those really important stories that everyone should know.
